About us

Hellefossen Wild Animals Center is a collaborative project between Østsiden JFF and Hellefossen Elveeierlag.

Thanks to a large donation from Sparebanken Øst, financial support from MD, equity and other supporters, the story of life on and along the river has been thoroughly documented.

A close collaboration with the Lærdal Visitor Center has provided access to interactive stations about wild salmon and the challenges that have arisen.

A big thank you to Torbjørn Nielssen who has assisted with professional advice and exhibition design.

We offer

We provide knowledge about the Drammen salmon, which is a wild Atlantic salmon, sea trout and the other species in the river. In addition, we showcase the society under Hellefossen, as it has developed over several centuries.

We are located in Gamle-Hokksund and are open Saturdays and Sundays in the summer. We have a fantastic indoor exhibition, and a small outdoor exhibition along the river.

With us you can learn more about the salmon's life cycle, as well as traditional fishing methods that have been used in the Drammenselva River throughout history. The fishing equipment under Hellefossen, driftnet fishing, gillnets and cast nets.

We also offer tailored lectures with themes about the Society under Hellefossen, and salmon fishing, as it has been practiced throughout history.
